World Music Denmark (formerly The Danish World Music Association) is a non-profit organization, founded in 1992 by a group of musicians, journalists, dancers and concert organisers.
The organization is dedicated to the development and promotion of Danish world music and to improving the conditions for world music and related dance forms.
World Music Denmark is recognised as the official interest group for world music in Denmark and receives an annual subsidy from The Danish Arts Agency (Ministry of Culture).
The organization supports bands based in Denmark with supplementary tarifs, marketing costs, supports workshops and events which promotes world music in Denmark. WMD coorperates with 4 jazz festivals and the SPOT Festival, organize the annual Danish World Awards and an upcomig World Music Festival, besides general information services, music export and the promotion of Danish world music abroad.
Cultures
WMD cooperates with Cultures - the quarterly Danish magazine for cross culture and world music.
Membership and members of the board
Membership of World Music Denmark is individual, and open to musicians, dancers, journalists, organisations, promoters and others with an interest in world music. Members of the board and the chairman are elected at the annual general assembly.

ACTIVITIES
Support *)
Supplementary tarifs: for professional bands giving concerts in Denmark.
Marketing grants: to cover the cost for PR material connected with concert activitites.
Activity grants: for events and activities promoting world music in Denmark, including international guest artists touring with Danish bands.
Transportation costs abroad: grants require a minumum of two jobs on an international tour.
*) Application for support may be submitted at any time during the year. WMD does not support cost related to recording or CD productions.
Education
WMD supports meetings and workshops with internationally recognised instructors, world visits/masterclasses for Danish world music bands and leading international musicians as well as courses and seminars in relevant subjects.
World Music Festival
WMD organize an annual upcoming festival in collaboration with the venue Global in Copenhagen. The two-day festival presents 8-9 new bands. The showcase concerts are preceded by 3-4 meetings in the rehearsal-room between each band and a banddoctor, a meeting with a professional person who evaluates the visual presentation and 2-3 joint seminars on career planning and the business aspects of running a band.
Danish World Awards
WMD presents 3 awards annually in collaboration with the magazine Cultures: Best Danish World CD, a Special Awards given to an individual or institution, and the and the World Track of the Year Award (formerly the Djembe Award) given to the band most favour by the readers of Cultures.
Marketing / promotion
CD: World Music from Denmark. WMD presents an annual promotion CD which presents a selection of the leading world music bands in Denmark.
