World Album of the Year ● Special Award ● World Track of the Year
And the winner is ...
The Danish World Awards 2009 were presented at a grand music gala on Saturday October 24th in Copenhagen Jazz House. Awards were presented in three categories, ‘World Album of the Year’, a 'Special Award’, and ‘World Track of the Year’.
• The award for ‘Album of the Year’ went to Alain Apaloo’s Apipipo and the album ’Flood Gate’ for its uplifting blend of West-African music and contemporary jazz. The album is based on Alain Apaloo’s own compositions and reinterpretations of traditional Togolese music, interplay between grooves, sequences, advanced harmony and a personal melodic flair.
• Promoter, selector and office gibbon Malachy won this years’ ‘Special Award’ for organizing Rub a Dub Sundays for almost 10 years. Sunday after Sunday this popular reggae club in Copenhagen has significantly aided the Danish reggae scene in achieving the popularity it enjoys today.
• The award for ’World Track of the Year’ went to Anita Lerche and the track 'Maahiya'. Anita Lerche is already a household name among Punjabis around the world with her Danish take on bhangra.

The grand music gala and award presentation is organized annually by World Music Denmark. A jury has voted on the nominees in each category. 15 bands were selected to be presented on a compilation CD and to compete in the category ‘World Track of the Year’.
